Bombay Blood

space"Bombay Blood" by Ray Ronan is a medical/spy/counterintelligence/conspiracy thriller; the story has a few grammar and spelling errors - yet, not enough to toss this reader completely from Ronan's carefully crafted world. Some sentence structuring was a bit odd, causing this reader to pause to re-read and decipher a bit. Frustrating for this reader, honestly. Chapter two, while an exciting and thrilling read, gave this reader pause simply because it felt out of place. Perhaps this is due to different writing styles, but this reader thought moving Chapter two behind Chapter three would keep the intensity moving forward as well as allowing the timeline to feel like it makes sense, as this becomes a very fast paced book that tends to keep a reader on the edge of their seat.
spaceOne of the plots found in this book is that of human organ donor's having the ability to sell their organs when they most need some hefty cash, and 'somehow' ending up dead before they fully utilize their cash - and life - to their satisfaction or happiness. Scary idea that actually seems possible in this era. The blood-lusting antagonist in this plot seemed somewhat stereotypical, almost a 'cookie-cutter' bad guy, needing to be fleshed out more. Negative traits at times seemed over the top, and this reader found no true examples of positive traits - even Jeffrey Dahlmer and Ted Bundy had some good traits. However, if one considers the corporation to be the true antagonist, it is quite believable especially when one considers the 'rights' being given to corporations in todays age. Case in point, a corporate entity being given the 'right' of religious beliefs and able to dictate female employees are not allowed to use birth control or have a medical abortion paid for by the insurance the company provides because it is against the corporation's religious beliefs, here in the US.
spaceOthers have commented about how much they liked and understood protagonist Lynn Clarke. Unfortunately, this reader cannot say the same. Lynn's character was not presented to this reader where she could empathize or feel for her in anyway, so this reader was not able to connect to this story. However, this reader found the setting descriptions well done; dialogue seemed 'hit-or-miss' for this reader as well, with some conversations being believable and others sounding flat and stilted. While this reader didn't have the 'can't-put-this-down-until-it's-finished' experience, she will state she can see where and how it grips others that enjoy this genre, and does recommend this book. This author requested review is this reader's honest opinion in exchange for the book. ** This review was originally placed on Amazon reviews on September 3, 2016. **
